Proportion of graduates with teaching qualification
Bukhara State University is a multi-disciplined higher education institution with a century of excellence and broad experience fostering future professionals. The university aims to contribute to the growth of society by nurturing specialists in various fields. In 2023, the university awarded 6994 degrees including 6163 bachelor diplomas, 776 master diplomas, and 55 doctorates. A sharp increase in graduates in 2024 was due to the rise in graduates from existing undergraduate and graduate programs and pioneering awardees of newly added undergraduate and graduate programs (figure 4.1). Therefore, the number of graduates with a qualification for teaching at the primary school level also rose. In total, 3820 graduates received diplomas from all degree levels with the qualification for teaching at the primary school level (figure 4.2). In 2023, the graduates with a teaching qualification completed 23 bachelor programs (table 4.1), 7 master’s programs (table 4.2), and 55 doctoral programs (all doctoral graduates are entitled to teach at the primary school level).

Education Outreach Activities Beyond Campus
Bukhara State University (BukhSU) has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to community engagement and social responsibility through impactful outreach activities. - International Day of Persons with Disabilities: In recognition of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, BukhSU’s Rector Obidjon Xamidov and Chairman of the Trade Union, Baxtiyor Qobilov, visited the “Muruvvat” boarding school for children with disabilities in Bukhara. During their visit, they gave the children memorable gifts and engaged in heartfelt interactions. This visit served as an educational experience for the children, highlighting the importance of empathy, community support, and caring for one another. The university’s representatives also discussed the children’s needs and aspirations, ensuring their voices were heard and valued.
- International Children’s Day: The BukhSU community celebrated International Children’s Day by participating in various public events and visiting children at the “Muruvvat” boarding school. The university organized a special puppet show at the regional puppet theatre for the children of BukhSU staff members, creating a magical experience filled with laughter and excitement. In addition to the show, the university distributed gifts and organized fun-filled activities for the children. This event highlighted the university’s dedication to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, demonstrating the importance of education, entertainment, and social interaction in a child’s development. The children were pleased with the attention and expressed gratitude to the university.
- Arts and Cultural Engagement: Faculty members from the Fine Arts Department and third-year students visited the children at the “Muruvvat” boarding school in celebration of International Children’s Day. The visitors brought gifts and shared their artistic skills, engaging the children in creative activities such as drawing and crafting. This interaction provided the children with a sense of accomplishment and joy, highlighting the therapeutic and educational value of the arts. The visit also emphasized the role of cultural education in building a well-rounded and inclusive community.
- Support for Women with Disabilities: The university’s Department of Postgraduate Education and the Faculty of Agronomy and Biotechnology initiated a visit to the “Women’s Muruvvat House” for women with disabilities. Professors and postgraduate students from the biology department spent quality time with the residents, offering gifts and engaging in meaningful conversations. This visit highlighted the university’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and promoting social inclusion. The discussions during the visit focused on the women’s experiences and needs, fostering a sense of connection and understanding.
- Visits to Male Internat Houses: Under the leadership of Rector Obidjon Xamidov, the university’s leadership and faculty members from the Faculty of Pedagogy visited the “Muruvvat” boarding house for men with disabilities in Karakul. This visit included distributing gifts, engaging in heartfelt conversations, and listening to the residents’ stories. The interaction provided a sense of connection and support, highlighting the university’s commitment to the well-being of all community members. The faculty members also explored opportunities for future collaborations to support the residents’ educational and personal development.
- Nationwide Community Engagement: In line with the national initiative to engage with the community, the university’s Ma’naviyat and Ma’rifat Center, along with the rectors of regional higher education institutions, visited the “Muruvvat” boarding house for men with disabilities. These visits were part of a broader effort to listen to the community’s concerns, provide support, and foster a sense of belonging. During these visits, university representatives discussed potential projects and programs to enhance the quality of life for the residents, demonstrating a long-term commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.

Vocational Training Events
Bukhara State University (BukhSU) has proactively organised a series of vocational training events aimed at lifelong learning for the general public. These events have catered to diverse interests and professional needs, offering valuable skills and knowledge through practical courses.
- Android Development Course: BukhSU launched a pioneering “Android Development” course in Bukhara, offering training in both Java and Kotlin programming languages. This course was designed for individuals interested in creating mobile applications, regardless of their prior experience in programming. The open-source nature of the Android platform and the simplicity of Java and Kotlin made this course accessible to beginners. Classes were held at the Business Accelerator, providing a hands-on learning environment.
- Artificial Intelligence Course: The RobotsAndMe training center at BukhSU introduced an “Artificial Intelligence” course, led by an internationally experienced instructor. Participants learned essential AI terminology, concepts, and applications. This course emphasized the growing importance of AI developers in various fields and aimed to equip learners with the skills needed to thrive in this rapidly evolving domain. The course sessions were scheduled flexibly to accommodate participants’ needs.
- Modern Accounting Course: Recognizing the demand for skilled accountants, BukhSU’s Business Accelerator offered a modern accounting course. This three-month program was designed to teach participants how to manage accounting for different types of businesses independently. Experienced professionals led the course, ensuring that attendees gained practical, industry-relevant skills. Successful participants were also offered employment opportunities, underscoring the course’s vocational focus.
- Language Courses: BukhSU’s Foreign Philology Faculty initiated language courses in English, Turkish, and German. These courses, organized by the “BukhSU Rainmaker” centre, were designed to help participants obtain language certificates necessary for entering postgraduate programs and securing high-paying jobs in foreign companies. The language courses also opened up opportunities for international collaborations and internships. Classes were taught by instructors with C1 proficiency, ensuring high-quality education.
- Corruption Resistance Training: In collaboration with local government bodies, BukhSU held a series of training sessions on fighting corruption. These sessions were part of a five-day practical course aimed at developing anti-corruption strategies among public officials from various districts. The training included lectures by university professors and government representatives, culminating in the awarding of special certificates to participants. Future plans include creating an online platform for continuous professional development in this area.
- Targeted Educational Courses for Contest Winners: BukhSU hosted targeted educational courses for winners of the “Mirzo Ulug’bek Vorislari” national competition. These courses, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, provided in-depth lectures and seminars by industry experts. Participants also enjoyed technological excursions to local production facilities, enhancing their practical understanding of the subject matter. At the end of the courses, participants received certificates and commemorative gifts.
- Taxation Courses: BukhSU’s Business Accelerator organized “Taxation” courses led by Alisher Radjabov, a specialist with 30 years of experience. These courses, based on Uzbekistan’s Tax Code, were tailored for university students, practicing accountants, entrepreneurs, and company executives. The training aimed to answer all questions related to the tax system, making it relevant for those seeking national and international accounting certifications.
- Legal Training Courses: BukhSU’s head of the Legal Department, Sh. Sharapov, successfully completed short-term professional legal training courses organized by the Legal Training Center under the Ministry of Justice. These courses focused on international standards for legal professionals, covering topics such as international commercial law, arbitration, anti-corruption laws, and advanced advocacy techniques. Sharapov’s participation highlighted BukhSU’s commitment to enhancing the legal expertise of its staff.
These vocational training events reflect BukhSU’s dedication to providing lifelong learning opportunities to the general public. By offering diverse courses in areas such as technology, accounting, languages, anti-corruption, and law, BukhSU is fostering a culture of continuous professional development and community engagement.
Public Events
Bukhara State University (BukhSU) has been dedicated to fostering lifelong learning through a series of public events open to the general public. These events, ranging from educational seminars to cultural festivities, aim to engage the community, promote knowledge, and encourage active participation. Below are detailed descriptions of some of the recent events held at BukhSU:
- BukhSU PARTY – “New Year, New Goals” The Youth Union at BukhSU organized the ” BukhSU PARTY” concert to celebrate the start of the new year with the theme “New Year, New Goals.” The evening was filled with lively student performances, including music and dance, which created a vibrant and festive atmosphere. Additionally, various interactive games were organized to uplift the students’ spirits and foster a sense of community. This event provided an excellent platform for students to showcase their talents and set a positive tone for the upcoming academic year.
- Anti-Corruption Event BukhSU hosted an important event titled “Towards a Society Free from Corruption,” focusing on raising awareness about the detrimental effects of corruption and the importance of ethical behavior. The event featured insightful presentations by university professors, legal experts, and local officials who discussed ongoing efforts and strategies to combat corruption. This event not only educated attendees about anti-corruption measures but also emphasized the role of every individual in building a transparent and just society.
- Celebrating the National Anthem To commemorate the 31st anniversary of the adoption of the law regarding the National Anthem of Uzbekistan, BukhSU organized a special event in its small assembly hall. The celebration included speeches by prominent figures such as Aziz Hakimov from the Republic’s Center for Spirituality and Enlightenment, along with faculty members from the history and legal departments. They highlighted the anthem’s significance and its representation of national values like peace, unity, and pride. The event served as a reminder of the cultural and historical importance of the national anthem.
- International Anti-Corruption Day In alignment with International Anti-Corruption Day, BukhSU held a series of activities throughout December. These included meetings, conferences, and seminars aimed at discussing anti-corruption efforts and strategies. Rector Obidjon Xamidov inaugurated the event with a speech highlighting the practical measures being taken to prevent corruption in Uzbekistan. The event also featured a competition encouraging students to create videos, articles, speeches, drawings, banners, and presentations on anti-corruption themes. The best entries were awarded cash prizes, encouraging active participation and creativity among students.
- Constitution Day Celebration At Mir Arab Specialized Islamic School, an event was organized to celebrate the 31st anniversary of Uzbekistan’s Constitution. The event featured discussions on the Constitution’s content, its legal foundations, and its contemporary relevance. Participants included the school’s director, youth leaders, and legal experts from BukhSU, who provided in-depth insights into the rights and responsibilities enshrined in the Constitution. This event educated attendees on the fundamental principles of the Constitution and its role in upholding justice and equality.
- “Constitution – The Triumph of Justice” BukhSU celebrated Constitution Day with an event themed “Constitution – The Triumph of Justice.” The celebration included a book exhibition showcasing literature related to constitutional law and a display of creative works by art students. Additionally, sports competitions such as tug-of-war and stone lifting were held, promoting physical activity and teamwork among students. This event highlighted the importance of the Constitution in ensuring justice and provided a platform for students to engage in both intellectual and physical activities.
- International Volunteer Day Bukhara State Medical Institute hosted an event to celebrate International Volunteer Day, bringing together members of the Uzbekistan Volunteers Association and university coordinators. The event featured speeches by A. Naimov, head of the Bukhara region’s higher education department, who congratulated the young volunteers and encouraged their efforts. Discussions focused on establishing volunteer centers across educational institutions, promoting the spirit of volunteerism. The event concluded with the recognition and awarding of active volunteers, highlighting the importance of community service and engagement.
- European Education Fair BukhSU, in collaboration with StudyIn University, organized the second “Education in Europe” exhibition. This event featured top universities from the Czech Republic, offering Uzbek students a unique opportunity to learn about studying in Prague’s prestigious institutions. The exhibition aimed to familiarize students with modern educational methods and facilitate cultural and academic exchange. Attendees had the chance to engage directly with representatives from these universities, gaining valuable insights into the educational opportunities available abroad.
- “Leaders’ Caravan” Festival The Youth Union at BukhSU held the “Leaders’ Caravan” festival, which included a talent show for school students. The event provided a detailed overview of BukhSU, showcasing its notable sites and museum. Participants included active university students who engaged with schoolchildren, inspiring them to pursue higher education. This festival aimed to bridge the gap between different educational levels and introduce young students to the academic opportunities at BukhSU.

- Completion of the “My Startup Project” Incubation Program At the My Office coworking center in Bukhara State University, the final presentation phase of the “My Startup Project” incubation program was successfully completed. The program provided a platform for students to develop and present their innovative ideas. Prominent entrepreneurs and experts from the region, including representatives from “Muborak Sulfur” LLC, “Ko’klam Safar Parranda” LLC, and “Naqshband” Private School, participated as commission members. They shared valuable insights and expertise with the students. Sixteen unique projects were presented, reflecting the creativity and hard work of the participants. The successful completion of this program underscores BukhSU’s dedication to nurturing entrepreneurial skills and providing practical learning experiences. Participants received certificates and letters of appreciation from the university leadership, acknowledging their efforts and achievements.
- Republican Training Seminar on “Safe and Prosperous Neighborhoods” A significant training seminar was held at the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, focusing on the principle of “Safe and Prosperous Neighborhoods.” This seminar aimed to enhance the effectiveness of the “Beshlik” system in preventing crime and ensuring public safety. BukhSU’s Vice-Rector, Azizbek Amonov, participated as a trainer and was awarded a certificate for his contributions. This seminar not only provided valuable knowledge on community safety but also highlighted the role of educational institutions in promoting social well-being. By participating in such events, BukhSU demonstrates its commitment to public safety and community engagement, extending its educational resources and expertise beyond the university.

Bukhara State University has several specialized and network libraries across different faculties and student dormitories, including:

Proportion of first-generation students
In 2023, 4020 students started their bachelor’s degrees out of this 1154 students were first-generation students starting a degree. The breakdown of new students by program is shown in Table 4.2.

Number of university sustainability program(s) with international collaborations
- International Student Leaders. Meeting Earlier, in October, BukhSU held the second international student leaders meeting titled “Innovation, Impact, and Future Directions of Sustainable Universities.” Students from Indonesia, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and top universities in Uzbekistan gathered to share their knowledge and experiences. The meeting included group discussions on topics such as water management, energy and climate change, waste management, transportation, education, and research. These sessions allowed students to exchange innovative ideas and develop strategies for promoting sustainability, including conscious water usage.
- Seminar on World Wetlands Day. In February, the Zoology and General Biology Department of Bukhara State University held a seminar dedicated to World Wetlands Day at the Bukhara Regional Department of Ecology, Environment Protection, and Climate Change. Professors and students discussed the importance of wetlands in biodiversity conservation and water management. They proposed the establishment of a state reservation in the Oyoq Ogtma Lake area to protect endangered plant and animal species. The seminar concluded with the distribution of certificates and appreciation gifts to active participants.
- Bukhara State University recently organized a training course on implementing a “Corruption Prevention Management System” by the international ISO 37001:2016 standard. This course was facilitated by “CERT Academy GROUP,” an international company headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The training was aimed at equipping organizations with the necessary tools and knowledge to combat corruption effectively.
- Cultural-Educational Event on the Day of Friendship of Nations. On July 30th, in celebration of the Day of Friendship of Nations, Bukhara State University actively participated in a cultural and educational event held at the Somoniylar Park in Bukhara. The event brought together representatives from various nationalities, fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration among different communities.
- BioEcoUz – a master’s program in bioeconomics with European partners. Bioeconomy is a new sector for Central Asian countries and has been applied in several European countries for a few decades. Bioeconomy is the production of renewable biological resources and the conversion of these resources and waste into value-added products, such as food, feed, chemical products, and bioenergy. The project is part of the Erasmus + capacity building program, and it will last for 3 years.
The project aims to create a new master-level curriculum, where the best international practices in the development of the bioeconomy will be integrated and demonstrated, thus stimulating Uzbekistan’s stakeholders to modernise the national economy, where paradigm change will appear regarding the efficiency, sustainable use of resources and capacity of the labour force will be shifted to bioeconomy, where knowledge and innovation are applied and better jobs are created.
Overall aim: To contribute to the development of sustainable and inclusive socio-economic growth in Uzbekistan.

- National workshop on UI GreenMetric for universities in Uzbekistan, May 26, 2023
The National Workshop on UI GreenMetric World University Rankings for Universities in Uzbekistan, hosted by Bukhara State University, took place on May 26th-27th, 2023. The workshop brought together several stakeholders from universities in Uzbekistan and experts from UI GreenMetric. The workshop is dedicated to the implementation of sustainability solutions within a campus. The university representatives shared their knowledge of waste management, transportation, energy, infrastructure etc. The experts from UI GreenMetric shared its vision, mission, participation guidelines, timeline, thematic priorities, and service packages, and shared the latest updates and developments from UI GreenMetric.
- Virtual Workshop on UI GreenMetric for Universities in Uzbekistan
The virtual workshop for universities in Uzbekistan was held on September 18, 2023. The opening speech was carried out by Prof. Dr. Ir. Riri Fitri Sari, M.M., M.Sc. Her detailed presentation was about UI GreenMetrics goals, partnerships, network and relevant details. The next
presentation was delivered by the rector of Bukhara State University who focused on “Establishing Sustainable Campuses: Benefits and Challenges”. Lastly, a comprehensive presentation was carried out by Dr. Ruki Harwahyu, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., who provided an in-depth overview of the UI GreenMetric Questionnaire and Report.
- International Symposium on “Oasis ecosystems amid climate change: challenges and solutions”
The symposium involved experts and scientists from many countries in the field of Oasis preservation. It allowed the participants to share their knowledge based on their experiences in their home countries. The main focus of the symposium was to determine ecosystems that absorb hydrogen and those that emit hydrogen which very relevant issue amid climate change. During the symposium, participants were able to travel to the VARNET greenhouse complex and Jayron ecosystem centres to get acquainted with recent developments in agriculture in Bukhara Oasis.
